Golden State Flying Club has been offering primary and advanced ground school classes at our Gillespie Field facility for five decades. Our classes are taught in a classroom environment by experienced flight and ground instructors and consist of lectures, workshops, and stage tests. We're also an FAA authorized Testing Center enabling our graduates to take the FAA Knowledge Tests here upon satisfactorily completing a ground course.

Almost every flight school offers an INTRODUCTORY flight of some kind. We call our introduction to flying an "Introductory Course" because it offers the prospective pilot a very thorough experience in order for you to evaluate what is involved in obtaining a pilot certificate. It starts with a no-cost 3 hour long Orientation Class during which we familiarize participants with everything they'd ever want to know about learning to fly - whether it be here or any other school. Details of cost, time and effort are carefully described to enable potential students to make educated decisions as to how to proceed with their training. Next, potential students are then escorted onto our ramp and shown around one of our Piper Warrior aircraft, including observing a preflight and cockpit checkout. Next, qualified participants* are offered the opportunity to purchase our $199.95 Introductory Course package which includes TWO ONE-HOUR FLYING LESSONS, a textbook, pilot logbook and choice of 2 nights in our Private Pilot Ground School for the purpose of evaluating the course for your personal needs. When you're ready to take advantage of our Introductory Course, call us to register for the Orientation Class after which you can schedule the first of your two lessons. We schedule 2 hours of total time for each 1 hour flight lesson to allow time on the ground for pre- and post-flight requirements.
